Can anyone tell me what exactly Leukemia is and other details about it? reply Lavanya Mar 04, 2016 Hi Santosh, sorry to hear Hi Santosh, sorry to hear about your friend! At the same time, I would say it would have been great if you would have mentioned your friend's age as well. Anyways, let's come to the point. Leukemia is a collective form of cancer that generally originates from the bone-marrow. It occurs due to the abrupt and abnormal growth of White Blood Cells that are not completely developed. At this moment, even medical science is not able to answer the exact reason for Leukemia. But it might persist in an individual due to several factors; it can be inherited also. Leukemia can be divided into: (1) Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), (2) Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), (3) Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) and (4) Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). Please check with your friend's family, what the report says about your friend as the recovery period can vary according to the types and stages of Leukemia. From my experience with Cancer, I would suggest you to refer your friend to go for Bone Marrow Transplant as it is considered as the most reliable treatment for Leukemia. In general, Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy and Targeted Therapy are the most commonly used treatments for Leukemia patients. If there is anything else you want to know, please feel free to post/ask here. Thanks. reply Add new comment Comment * Your name * E-mail * The content of this field is kept private and will not be shown publicly.
